I know this is way off topic, but I trust you opinions, and I need some feedback.

I am trying to help my church get their sound system sounding good. Right now they are using a Behringer digital EQ for the FOH mains. I have never liked that unit.

For those of you who have experience with Live sound, what EQ do you like for the mains?

Thanks!

I like most Klark DN27s for PA requirements.
But you can´t change the roomacoustic with an EQ. And in the most churches I know the room itself is the weakest point for sound reinforcement.
Is anybody in your church able to use an EQ (except you of corse)? A good reason for the Behringer might be that it has no faders (where anybody can play around). Maybe it has even a passwordprotection??? Nothing better than this. And the sound is not too bad (for live Sound). I used it a lot for delaylines in installations.
Weaker than this EQ might be the Speakers (the coverage of the audience)

Yes, the room is a big problem. The rest of the gear is pretty decent. McCauley mains, New Yamaha 32 channel mixer with great bussing capabilities.

They set the EQ using the RTA in the Behringer unit before I got there, and locked it up after that. The problem is that the EQ curve is a big smiley face, and that's exactly what it sounds like - midrange scooped.

Maybe we'll just start with re-setting the EQ.

Thanks.

What kind of PA system do you have?
Is the hall long or what?
What kind of amps are you using?
What kind of loudspeakers are you using?
How many people can the hall have?
How many dB's are you planning to have there?
etc etc...........

If you want some answers , that you must give more information.
