On Mackie's new ONYX line of mixers. Any ideas what this is? Is it actually a unique design, or some marketer's made-up name for the eq to make people believe it's really exquisit? I haven't heard one yet, and I have never heard of "Perkins", so I'm just wondering to the group.

Anyone used one? Opinions?

Also, does anyone haveknowledge about the design or have schematics?

Fine print at bottom of page:

"* The truth is that there were almost as many different types of "British EQ" circuitry as there were British mixing console designers in the 1960?s and 1970?s. But the Wein Bridge topology Cal used for Perkins EQ is generally considered to be among the sweetest. (You can now pick the "Debunking Audio Myths" category on Audio Jeopardy.)"

It's all marketing. V-pot, VLZ mic pre's "the pro's preferred to the $200,000 console," etc. I know the guys who wrote this stuff, it's just coming up with a story for the sales reps to tell. "Yeah, it's another mixer like the old one... but it's black... oh, but it's got Perkins EQ!" Not to say the EQ is good or bad, but it's just spin. So what console did this Perkins chap design?

I actually write the style of evil marketing copy for an audio manufacturer myself.

But noone beats "The father of the British eq"
