I've mentioned from time to time a fellow called Peter Coghlan. A contemporary of Rupert Neve, though much less well-known or successful. He was my 'Yoda' I suppose... -the funny thing is how much he resembled Alec Guinness in 'Star Wars'!

Any time I've had cause to mention him here, I've always said how much I owe him and how much I learned from him. I even arranged a 'meeting' with himself and Mark Burnley last year.

It gives me great sadness to report his death on January 2nd, after a short illness.

You taught me a lot; some bits come back to me at the oddest moments... I'll miss you Peter.

That is really sad news.

I spent an enjoyable afternoon with him last year, and learnt more in three hours of his time than in anyone elses ever!

He told me his story- he had a remarkable life, and he had met people such as Wharfedales' G.A.Briggs and other hi-fi notables from the 60's. Even last year he was working on a Top Secret audio project for a very well known band. But he took all this with a pinch of salt.

When I first started working in Liverpool studios, I used to gaze in awe at anything "Coggie" had built or fixed.

Sadly missed- what a great guy!

Back in the late seventys I worked with Pete on certain aspects of a large point source flown system being installed in a London theatre, the guy had certainly paid his dues. Good bloke.
Andy.
