Hey there,

I'm hunting down a problem, and the symptom I have is that my 7918 (built a +/- 18V version of this circuit) is gettin smokin hot, to the point where it stops regulating. I slapped a heatsink on it, and it still gets really hot > 80C.

This is running a 312 like circuit.

The other regs are totally fonzi.

Thoughts on what types of things to look for?

Regards

Does anything else in the system get really hot?

With that much current you might be able to track down the source of the excess drain by using a good DVM and probing from the origin at the regulator to various points along the traces/wiring. Pick a spot near the origin/regulator but not right on it since the thermocouple voltages will interfere as the regulator heats up the trace.
