Recently picked up a pair of BBSM 6 to see what the fuss is about.
Now that I have gone over it, it is in dire need of a complete refurbishing. The enclosure is scratched and a little beat up in places, the midrange driver has deteriorating foam edges., one of the large drivers on one side has a crack ring, another one a little bent out of shape...
I can get the enclosure refurbished. no problem there.
I can get the midrange re-edged.
I need help of getting replacement large drivers.
Where do I get them? Any thoughts?
The original drivers has this very specific cement like material caked on the back... The same material is also applied liberally across every inch of the inside of the enclosure. what is that material and what does it do? Anyone has success in using alternative drivers?
A quick googling yields other souls as confused about this as I am right now?

Any thoughts are much appreciated. As usual, thank you all.

if there ever was a fuss it was a long time ago.  I would think carefully before dropping significant money on refurbing these.  The speaker game has moved on a lot.

Some westlake speakers used SEAS elements. I belive the cement on the elements was added to give them more mass,
to get rid of some resonances.

Well... as they say, curiosity kills the cat. I was curious. I don't have much intention in sinking significant sums into them. Most of the refurbishing services are available to me fairly cheaply, except replacement drivers. I don't even know where to begin.

I used to work for westlake. You are best to buy any drivers from them, they match them and do other thhings to really make them worth  the cost you pay for them, from them.
