Wow....I just looked at the pedals on behringer's site. Roland ain't kidding. Looks like they knocked off some EH designs too. You'd think they would have learned by now.

its funny what some folks accuse us of here considering the real evil that is going on in the world today. Real evil, decided upon with lawyers at a board table meeting in a corporate office. But we are the problem...

some lawyers will make nice cash on this...
B doesn't care, it is a well calculated risk.
I don't see him going bancrupt in the coming years btw...

Sorry for hacking this thread, but that quote was already screaming for my attention way to long...

Back on topic now

A somewhat similiar case was the Rode NT2, which was verboten in Germany because its grill looked too similar to Neumann's U87. But that legal action helped Rode elsewhere in the world, because everyone now thought the NT2 is an exact copy in all respects including sound. It's great for dealer's to be able to say (in confidence    ): "You know, this microphone is illegal in Germany, it's an exact copy of The Neumann. It's a steal!

To be fair, Rode recently discontinued the NT2, and the newer mics don't imitate other designs. B*ringer still play their game.

Mr. Tony , Name me one record and I'll buy you a beer

In Utero, his most famous.

But on topic. Behringer was going to sell their pedals with a LIST price of 25-30 USD.

Roland was buying its time with lawyers. Prices like that could kill Boss.

Having had a look at the stomp boxes at the B site, I'm a little suprised that B would even attempt this knowing legal action would have been a certainty. Silly? I think so!

The Roland knockoffs seem to be vaporware at present... "available 2nd quarter of 2005".

Plenty of time to see if Roland sues or not. I bet they have an alternate cosmetic design waiting in the wings here.

i don't recall who, but there's been a Boss rip before.
Very lookalike.

I'm not so sure of the Bringer would be competition in terms of quality

These kinds of lawsuits are difficult to win. The plaintiff has the burden of proof of showing caused damage, or in this case prove "market confusion" and thus, resultant damages. It's more about who can tie up the other in extensive litigation and push the company a few steps closer to bankruptcy. It usually ends in a settlement or bankruptcy--settlement being the more common end.

There's always injunctive relief - Behringer can be forbidden from selling the products in question. May not be a huge financial gain, but if Roland doesn't enforce its IP, it loses it to any schmuck who wants to copy it.
I remember some 'PSK'-pedals, less 'polished' but clearly intended to be a Boss-copy.
and plastic cases
I have some of these ... I also have the Boss pedals and I bought the PSK's to find out just how close the copies where.
... and they are/were more than close ...

Anyone remembers 'Coron'-pedals ? Could be said these were 'copying' MXR but it's of course much more difficult not to look like a MXR-box.

The redesign of the stompboxes is ready - they'll have had this prepared before I guess.

The styling of the control-panel still makes me think of... though.

But EH doesn't seem to have objected...

All kinds of other goodies BTW, including a micpre for EU 46:

OK, enough computer-pic gazing, better back to playing & soldering I guess.

OK, before I do: this new one might be cool & sound great !
