I recently bought an old HP distortion analyzer. But the power cable was rotten - the isolation just fell off when I flexed the cable...

I saved the connector, as I haven't been able to find a new cable that fits. I have soldered a new cable on the old connector, but now I have to "re-build" the connector somehow.

This is what the connector looks like now:

What could I use to (safely) rebuild the thing? Epoxy? Silicone?

Best regards,

Hot melt glue works good for building up this kind of thing. Make a little square mold from waxed cardboard, put the connector inside and fill 'er up. After it cools, place it in the freezer for a couple hours, and the cardboard peels away from the glue easily.

or use one of those IEC connectors... but this will involve a lot of drilling and filing. CJ's method is the quickest.
