These are a steal at 12 bucks each from JLI.

17mm cardioid electret; no FET, but has a built-in proper cone deflector behind the diaphragm, opening to side vents, so perfect for end-address bodies. Not as flat as the published curve, but not as bright as the typical chinese electret. Much smoother and warmer than TSB-165, and not as bright as the TSB-2555. Solidly built; not stamped aluminum. A bit on the noisy side, though.

Not nearly as bright, and sounds like the tip-up starts at a higher frequency. Though better than the TSB-165, that brass capsule is just too bright to be usable (for me) without EQ. 1813 is noticeably noisier, though. A little quieter than the TSB-165.

I found that 25mm (20mm diaphragm) brass capsule a bit bright as well, so I used it as a test for a couple of the band pass 'cut' filters in my simple EQ module project (see here: www.CEQ.jp137.com )

For a £3 ($4.50) capsule, I don't think it sounds too bad at all with a bit of EQ added?

That brass capsule does wonders for me in hand held models. Foam in front of handhelds smooths out high end just enough. My measurements show similar shape and amount of hf boost as in usual RK12 edge terminated models. Has massive low end upclose, but not overbearing. Here's an idea, i use it for projects like this. Condenser variant of SM7b.

I know it's low-rent, but I also get fair results putting a disc of Kleenex at the end of a foamy.
