I wonder if modern consumer color laser printers could print a logo/legend to back of transparent film. My drum tuner escutcheon/face plate overlay is pretty much that printed by a commercial machine.

They certainly can. Have used that to create silkscreen transparencies. Some folks use it to create masks for self-etching PCB s. And I've used them on decal transparencies for cheap color logos. Not the best solution, but can work.

I want yo know if these UV printers can really align the drawing to the holes of a frontpanel. Most videos don't show that detail...

Indeed they can; however it takes trial and error to optimize placement. For that, the UV light must be turned off, so the ink can be wiped.

Some of the pedal FX guys have used this new waterslide decal tech and it seems to work really well.

I managed to find some here in Johannesburg, but have not taken the plunge yet.
