Just so I can offer some ideas to this group:

http://www.edcorusa.com/transformers/audio/matching.htm

Pretty decent line level iron at an excellent price. I have some test specs that I ran in my pile o' notes...somewhere!

Hi Brian,

Welcome to the GroupDIY forums!

I always enjoy your answers over at psw..

I think we've already discussed the edcor transformers (see the transformer "meta": http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=467) - and yes, they seem to make decent iron at decent prices..

Glad to have you aboard..

How about the cheap mic tx @maplin (£7.90)? It's not shielded though, specs below.

Turns ratio: 07:01:00
Input impedance: 300-0-300 ohm (600 ohm)
Output impedance: 20k ohm
Frequency response: 50Hz to 18kHz (-1dB)
The transformer is suitable for direct PCB mounting. Overall dimensions: 30 x 30 x 30mm high including 5mm long PCB mounting pins.

Input Z seems pretty low to me, for a mic...

If it has two 300 ohms winding, then it would be 1200 ohms in series, and NOT 600, like they say...

Anyway, I think that it should work ok as a 1:4 input (1k2/20k). One should try. As a 1:8 (300/30k), I doubt it would perform good.
