Hi,
I built a Pultec Eq without the tube gain stage because I wanted a really clean Eq. Today to get up the level I put a Joemeek sc2 after it.
But now I want to make my second Eq with a gain stage and here my question:

Does anyone knows a great sounding simple line preamp (gain stage) with 23 db gain which i can build on a normal breadboard? Or a great diy-kit?

Thanks!

you might look at the JLM dingo kit, lot's of options from clean to DOA color... I has a line input buffer (before your eq) makeup gain, which can be set to whatever you need, then line output driver.

Or you could vero board basically the same thing, the schematics are available on his site.

JLM should be excellent and probably available as a complete kit, which makes things easier.  Member PPA has an I/O board you could use as well. But if you only want the output side, the solid state pultecs used an API 2520 for makeup.  I wouldn't recommend you perf a 2520, but you can perfboard the other 5 parts of the circuit and plug the 2520 in. It's pretty simple.
