Hi!

I have problems with a Solid State Logic Alphalink Mx madi converter (clicks, pops and noise on some a/d channels) and I thought it may be due to some faulty capacitors.

I opened the unit and found those in the picture and I can't understand what those numbers mean...

I googled it and the closest I found were Panasonic S serie surface mount capacitors (see pics) which are similar (mine doesn't have the black bar that identify the negative side).

So, as far as I can tell, these are 10uf 35v S-serie Panasonic capacitors...

Can anybody confirm this? I'd like not to blow everything!

Without answering your specific question about caps, whenever I've had problems with pops and clicks with my converters it's been down to issues with the connectors - poorly seated, stressed cables or dirty contacts. Not to mention numerous software or driver issues with the interface itself. Before you start looking at the internals, have you ruled that out?

Thanks for your answer!

Yes I checked everything regarding clocking, madi format, cables etc... and I finally found the answer!

One opamp was dying, I replaced it and it went as quiet as it ever was! So no need to touch the caps as you suggested!

Great! Glad to hear it's all sorted out. Given how much we all rely on our converters it's a nasty feeling when they misbehave...

How did you single it down to the opamp by the way?

My guess is 10 uF/ 35V  The rest of the numbers are lot code or something like that.

The polarity is indicated by the base corners.

Not sure how a cap could cause that kind of noise.
