Hey everyone!!

I have been a member for some time, mostly because of the Gssl compressor project I have been building.

Like many people starting with those bigger projects I didn't understand what I was doing and I was simply following instructions to get it working.

Since then I got some book on basic electronics, power supplies and an amazing book of Douglas Self "Small signal audio design", unfortunately I feel that the book is above my level and that I'm missing out on some pretty basic stuff.

So before I jump into another advanced project I want to go back to basics. I got my self a breadboard, variable power supply some basic components, transistors, op amps etc

My question now is what are the most basic projects related to pro audio which I could start on, but not guitar pedals as I'm not a guitar player and I don't have facilities to test them.

And basic I mean something I could get working on the breadboard, experimenting with different components etc

I will be interested to build myself some decent eq's in the future so maybe that will be something to start with?

Anyway, if anyone have any advice, online resources, simple projects to recommend, I will really much appreciate as probably everyone who tried to learn electronics by him self knows how difficult is sometimes to keep going and keep the motivation.

Thanks a lot!

Hubert

Nevertheless, build some guitar pedals. Some of them are SIMPLE, which appears to be where you are at now. Some are sorta useful for general audio. Understanding how they work teaches the basic theory, which is the same in a console or a radar.

Try the LPB, E-H's 1-transistor gain stage. When used with weak guitar it gets louder with little flavor. When used with strong guitar it blasts the main amp input and gets dirty. If your cassette player is too weak for your PA system it will boost level. 2 or 3 LPBs in a string will bring microphone up to line level, and is the basic idea of most "good" preamps.
