Are you serious?

You've given two reasons for withdrawing your help, and neither of them actually happened.

Thanks for your advise thus far.

people people calm down. Ok. for starters replacing parts from a good working board to a non working board is good for certain parts like op amps, transistors, doa's. but I would say don't do it. Why? Well because you will most likely use a hand held de-solder pump which IMO does nothing more other then destroy pads and traces. I originally suggested a recap. That was not done. A recap is when you replace all electrolytic capacitors. You may replace other types of caps as necessary but usually just the electrolytics. mnats much like myself is a repair monkey and it is easy to get frustrated being a repair monkey which is all that has gone on from what I have read. NO need to jump at him especially when he is trying to help. Also mnats has suggested that it's possible a solder joint has gone bad. YOu should try and reheat all the joints on that card.

Now if you guys can't play nice, I'm going to take your toys away 8)

You're right pucho; I didn't mean to sound like i was jumping.
I do appreciate any advice.

I'll do what you suggested and report back. It might take a little while, I don't have supplies or anything.

Thanks Pucho and mnats.

Hello mate, I have the exact unit with the exact problems in every way as you.. Did you find the fault? I'm thinking it is a cap as while I was waiting to be approved for this forum I start to gently heat areas of the audio board and the missing LEFT channel re-appeared on the monitor from the line in and when playing the tape the missing RIGHT channel appeared..

I'll update if I find the exact cap, will try freeze spraying caps and then removing and checking capacitance and ESR on my meters..

>> This sounds like it could be a common problem inherent to this specific make and model of unit!!!

The "cure" just might be as simple as reheating/resoldering -- ALL -- of the solder-joints on > EVERYTHING!!! < This means every joint on all PCBs and all connections on connectors/jacks/pots, etc. In other words.....LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE!!!

My 2-cents worth.....

I'll look under the microscope first as that is rather an extreme approach.. as there are a lot of connections. I was hoping steenamaroo might have fixed his as it was a long time ago and have some insight.. I'll report back what I find and hope he sees this message at some point.

It certainly sounds like a common problem as the symptoms are identical. Heating the audio board seams to fix it which would make sense that it is something on that board.

Many thanks.

Many reel to reel and cassette tape decks have mechanical record/playback switching ,
its the first thing to check ,
I used service cassette decks at one point , that was easily the most common fault .

+1 for checking the mechanical switches.
I have in a few cases reflowed entire pcbs with intermittent faults. It worked, but it was a meditative excercise, to say the least...

Good luck, keep us posted

How do I send people messages on here, I cannot find a way? Then I can message Steenamaroo to see if he fixed his after all these year?

As I'm guessing he hasn't seen the new replys in this thread!

Many thanks.
