1000 horsepower is small change these days.  You can buy a Dodge with over 800 horsepower.
While a fuel dragster has well over 10,000 horsepower. It uses almost 14 gallons of special fuel to cover 1000 feet. Then they disassemble and rebuild the engine for the next race.

It's called the "motor-paced bicycle land speed record." Drafting is how that record has always been set for well over a hundred years. Someone else already explained that in an earlier reply, but if you want to read up on it, the term is motor-paced racing.

Saying there should be an asterisk next to this record is like saying that there should be an asterisk for baseball-bat-assisted home run records.

I just checked google and pretty much every headline neglects to mention "motor-paced" or more specifically "motor assisted"

Yeah, and what about those metal bats?  :eek:
