Hey
i need to reach to lower side of a ssl channelstrip pcb. therefore i need to dissemble the rack. what kind of tool do i need to loosen those potentiometer nuts? can anyone point me towards a fitting tool?

thanks a lot
jakob

I suppose it's a Sifam collet knob? If so you need something like this or even pliers might do the job. If you buy the tool make sure it's the correct diameter.

I just use a small flat head screw driver, like those jeweller sort and I put it into the little slit on the nut and loosen it up and then unscrew it with my fingers

careful there is the potential to strip it that way. you also have a good chance of stripping it out with pliers.  Right tool for the job. The knob itself is put on with a collet. A collet screwdriver looks like a two prong fork. You can by the sifam ones for lots of $$$ for one and you need two different sizes.  You can make your own with a dremel tool which works o.k. but not the best option.  I picked up a security bit set that contains all the collet sizes amoung other security bits.

This one is only 5.00 dollars and contains  collet heads.

A pointy pair of needle nose pliers works for me if I misplaced my Sifam tool, and a pair of dikes works in a pinch.
The slotted screwdriver works great on the knobs if you don't have the collet tool.
Anyone with an SSL should buy and use all the correct tools or the hardware will get even more naffed than it already is on a 15 year+ old desk.
