I always hate these changes when the come along. When we started out, is was just 'The Lab', and that was it!

But... I always get used to it after a while once my brain has adjusted. I'm sure everything will be fine, probably even better.

Thanks for all the hard work.

To be honest, I hadn't even noticed! Every time I come here, I click straight onto 'Show unread posts since last visit', and just read through the list of threads that show new posts ...

The addition of new forums will no doubt present a little more of a challenge when searching for past threads manually, if I can't recall the appropriate search terms due to my foggy memory. I will register as another who dislikes change ... other than that, I think Stewart sums it up well enough.

Interesting discussion this....

I am one of the complained about "new" people. I have polluted this forum with starting threads that were already there. Not (or at least not just) because I was too lazy to search. Most of the times because I did not know the proper terms for what I was actually looking for. I think sometimes it is difficult for experienced diy-ers, especially whose native tongue is English, to understand how difficult even the language barrier is, especially if you are a beginner. So please forgive, or at least try to understand me and other noise-causers to pollute your signal.

I have learned a great deal in the time I am active on this form. Sometimes because people explained patiently,  sometime because people just kicked my ass and pushed me to look harder. Both are fine with me. So I try to give things back to the forum. I make donations, give things away for free in free gift threads, help sorting the topics in new categories. Sometimes I even know something someone asks, and I am happy to share knowledge. I will not grow to be a Ruffrecords or NYDave... but other new noise generators might.

What I am trying to say is that with progress of time, things change. And every side of the story has another side. I really want to ask the "older" members who are not happy with how things are evolving here not to leave. I, and a lot of other noise generators really appreciate everything you have build up here. And we need you grumpy old bastards. Instead, get involved in the changes. What don't you like? and more importantly: why? Can we include that into the changes? Or.... this might sound weird... you can learn something from the noise generators. Come out of your comfort zone. I know that always makes me a better person...

I welcome the changes.

I think it is extremely childish to jump into conclusion and consider leaving the forum without allowing sufficient time to see how things develop.

Finally, I would imagine one would consider the possibility that Ethan might have at least as much vision as any other member would have, if not more.

I hate to say it, but I'm considering selling off my inventory and disappearing into the ether
 very dissapointing behavior...

Thanks for trying to keep this place clean Ethan and to endure all these frustrated "it was better before..." old men.
Dudes, you're talking like my Grandpa and he's dead so...

it's impossible to please everyone...

Anyway, it's remind me my job (in a bad way), I managed project documentation for big engineering company and we have a new software...same complaints, the old one was better, this one sucks I refuse to use it and bla blah blah...

Please, this place is my escape for my boring job...don't fuck it.

More than electronics, I learned here a lot about sound, about mixing technique, recording different instruments the right way.
I've got a small home studio but now with great gear and all my friend are amazed how gound sounding my tracks are now.
I've learned a lot about audio history, about people who have made history...

3 years ago I was this guy, thinking that the Art mpa"tube" pre was a great solution for warming up the sound, thinking that gear were useless when you have the plug in.

I was a noise generator!

So be proud that these half-witted caterpillar are now became strong butterflies!!

cheers.

Perhaps Skylar is having a bad day, man we all get 'em,,

But I also welcome the changes - I have 100% confidence in Ethan.

The new catagories are cool, however, a lot of my projects are both a mic pre AND an EQ.

Where would they go?
Thanks!

If they're a preamp, they'll mostly be used as a preamp. I wouldn't imagine anyone building a 9k just for the high and low pass filters... You could also post a link thread directing over from the eq section to three preamp section if you felt it necessary.

I don't like it.

No offense to anyone, but I don't care for the changes either.

When I joined back in 2005, one of the things I really liked about this forum was its simplicity...Drawing Board, Lab, Brewery, Black Market...that was it!

Unfortunately, it seems that GroupDIY is on its way to this, which is not good in my opinion.

I like the new divisions.

We use Altium Designer at the day job, and their support forum is a mess, because they have exactly one. All topics all the time go into that one forum. It doesn't matter if you've got a problem with schematics, it goes into the forum. If you've got a problem with their silly FPGA tools, it goes into the forum. The search isn't too helpful, and you've got to wade through page after page after page to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

DIYAudio is waaaay too fine-grained.

It's a balance, I suppose. I will say I dig the "Higher Order" forum, mainly because I like FPGAs.

What do you guys think about one more category in the project specific builds? Like misc? I am one of the volunteers moving threads, and I find so many great projects in older pages that do not fit one of the four categories... I am afraid they will get lost otherwise... I have already asked Ethan about this.. but just curious about your opinion on this....

I agree with Gemini.... let me know if you agree as well, then I will move them and let you know the links to the topics so you could post references to them in the EQ section if you want.... ok?

It is like when your wife tidies up.
You know everything is better, but things just aren't where you left them.

That's great! I can have my jumbled mess back again, just like the lab when it started.

Thanks!
