Over the years I've build 4 Pultec type filters for use in my studio.  I usually use mic pres for makeup gain.  I thought about adding a transformer to the output of the filters to add character and make them play with my pres more effectively.

The Triad HS-29 bridged the filter of Pultecs to to the amp was 20000 input impedance and 80000 ohm output impedance.  For my purposes, I thought of using a transformer with 20000 ohm input and 150 ohm output.  Does this seem like a good direction for my situation?

Thanks,
Craig

you could try a triad hs50,

15k to 600/150

you will loose some signal but could make it up with the mic pre

might decrease hum do to the isolation between the filter and preamp

Thanks CJ, I was actually looking at the HS-50, 52,54, 60 and 61.

The units would all be HS-66->Filter->HS-?->mic pre.

Looking to get the maximum Pultec flavor without building a separate makeup gain amp.

yes stick it on the end of the filter,

i do not know what the impedance of the filter networkwas designed to be,probably  600 ohms, so you want that 600 ohms to drive a xfmr with a higher z so it will not short out too much signal,
