I have a pair of Trident CB9066 mastering EQ's that I'm working on and while I have the covers off am taking pictures. Can someone host them?

I think this EQ could be cool one to clone; It dates to 1976.

I have the manual and Parts list too!!!

would be nice to see some inside shots and a schemo :thumb:
the unit has hi and locut filters also, right?

Hi,

Here is a schematic gleam of a typical eq section in the CB-9066.
(we have this eq unit as a discussion for a year ago)

hi bo-

have you ever compared the sound of that EQ to a trident B range? I got a pair of Brange EQ's a while ago and really really really like what they do. Wondering how that design sounds in comparison.

The ones I have I am fixing. I have to turn my console up all the way and then I get a sample what they do. from what I can tell these things are VERY VERY COOL!!!.

I emailed the pics to Kubarth and he has them on his site.

The units are discrete. They have 54 tantalum caps. I spoke with D.W. Fearn about them today as he seemed to know something about them. He thought that the interstage coupliing caps (tants) need to be replaced. I figure if I'm changing those out I should do all the tants in one shot. Both units have the ame issue, where they barely pass audio and the pots are scratchy as hell.

I looked up nte replacement parts for the Transistors and they have them for all the ones in there.

You can get everything else in there too.

I have the manual with the FULL PARTS LIST.

Bo once again is the man as he came up with some schemos.

The manual has the flow diagram but no schemos.

Steffan, it says it has:

"The high nad low pass filter circuits feature Sallen and Key filter techniques. In each circuit there are two second order filters connected in series providing an over-all fourth order filter. The resulting maximum available slope of 24db per octave can be bypassed in varying degrees thereby controlling the overall slope rate and the frequency can likewise be adjusted. The filters are place around very low distortion voltage followers which ensure zero phase shift and do not modify the characteristics of the circuit."

These are connected in series to the low, mid and high parametric sections of the EQ.

Thanks Kubi for hosting the pics:

Dave,

Yes, I have work with both B-range and CB-9066, and it is same basic sound character because it have same discrete amp "building bricks" as Triad A and B range consoles, but the filters work and sounds different.

The A and B range consoles have Baxandall style as bass and treble and a L and C circuit style in mid range section.
The CB-9066 have R and C "twin T-net" in all band, and is also full parmetric with sweep and Q.

The CB-9066 sounds very clean and nice, but the "parametric control knops" work and feel different as we are usage when we work with modern parametric eq`s to day.

It is also un-balanced on in and outputs, but it have a good complementary output amp and can drive a lot of load.

Looking at the prices for the 54 tants in there were looking at around $130.00 via mouser. There are Wima polys too. I think this EQ would be a inexpensive and well worth the paltry cost to re-make.

If we're going to do this I'll get the parts list scanned and a copy the manual.

Some small cap comments,

My personally opinion are that is not necessary to use tantal capacitors longer, because there are a lot of good audio electrolytic aluiminium capacitors to day, that have very low impedance, leakage and distortion.

Theree are verry good brands/types as ELNA/Silmic,Cerafine,Tonerex or Nichicon/Muse series or Black Gate or Panasonic/FC,NHG series or ........

Of course there are a lot of divided opinions about tantals and aluminium electrolytic sound quality, here are som interesting postings from a other forum:

What values are the tantulum capacitors
mmh red ones as well (i have a few of those - make is Marconi dated 1977 - I wonder if they are the same manufacturer)

edit:
oh I see them - 22uf 25volts

tubemonkey, do you still have the manual? maybe a scan would create some interest.

this would be a great project peeps.
