An 1176 just came on the bench and these have a sealed "T attenuator" ganged pot on the input. A quick google search came up with all sorts of repair attempts. I even looked into purchasing a new ganged pot and they are ~$160 at the moment.
I opted to try opening the sealed pot and cleaning it because, why not?
It was actually much more simple than I would have imagined. The epoxy that is sealing the pot is very brittle and for the top pot can just be broken off with a sharp pair of snippers. To undo the bottom pots tensioner clips the best way I found was to use to a Dremel with a disc blade and slowly shave the epoxy away until you can insert a tool to break away the remaining epoxy and then pry the clips back. I used a small pair of precision wire snippers to pretty much do all the prying and breaking away of the epoxy.
I popped them open and cleaned them with De-Oxit and some Cue Tips and put them back together. They are now squeaky clean.
