I'm thinking of building a couple 610 pre's, and I want some real IRON in the sound, I want this thing to sound vintage! so I'm thinking Jensen and Lundahl transformers won't really give me the color I am looking for. I don't care about transparency or THD of whatever HiFi crap, I want to plug in a mic and have frickin' PET SOUNDS come out! I want to go back to LA in 1965. Any Ideas? I would really love something with multiple taps so I can play around with the input impedance.
Thanks much. :guinness:

UTC have it all. Lots of multi tap transformers on their catalogue. Go shop for some UTC, you won´t be disapointed. I think no iron today sounds like vintage UTC, TRIAD, PEERLESS, etc... I´m not saying the iron of today is worst, it´s just diferent. I really think that for what you want, you need vintage iron.

think about it seriously...

I started watching 610's on ebay and ive seen them selling for under $700

do your math wisely because it might not really save much by doing your own... when taking metal work and such into consideration
