Just to potentially clear up one thing - at least on some DBX 1066's i had a while ago, the pots did indeed feel like they were detented (didn't count how many though). That being said, they weren't the "kachunk-kachunk" detents you'd find in a rotary switch, just a light, dull "step" that ticks over.

I that's kinda what I was thinking with the DBX pot. So you can go between the detents???? Kinda gimmicky I guess but good for a quick recall even though I probably wouldn't  trust the accuracy.....lol potentially...
 
actually you can - because it's pot and not resistors between the stops ....but if you do - i'm not really if it's will be usable to you because the steps really small .....
