I like it. Why don't you change the thread title to the name of your pre?

I would, but I dont know how..............

I'm still trying to figure out how to get those input transformers here in the states.

Dont worry. There are other/better mic. trafos out there.

The only reason I went with the OEP was because it´s cheap and I was gonna order some stuff from RS anyway.

Try a Jensen or Lundahl in there for (probably) better results.

Looking at the schem now, I realise something.

R4 could be made larger.

Also, I should mention that there is also a -20dB input pad and a unbalanced DI/Line tele jack not drawn on the schem.

Hmmmm. CJ´s giving me the old "cold shoulder".

Anyone else care to translate?

Can't speak for him directly, but I understood it to mean that if you run the tube for 6 months and it doesn't have any noise issues, you should be good for the life of the tube.

HTH!

Like radio active decay...

If it's noisy at 6 months, it'll be 2x as noisy in another 6 months.

An e80f might be worth trying for fun...

Nice build.

:guinness:

Thanks, babyhead.

Yeah, I guess im set then.

These TAD EF86 im using are quiet.

An e80f might be worth trying for fun...

Yep, and then theres the EF806 too.

All 4 channels done.

Now sporting the popular "toothpaste white" custom colour front panels.

So, no comments on the circuit?
Improvements that can be made etc.?

From what i can see i like the color.
You are probably using triode mode now..Did you think of running it in pentode mode and putting output attenuator after the out transformer? That would probably give you some color and gain when needed.

You are probably using triode mode now.

Nope. Its wired pentode.

Did you think of running it in pentode mode and putting output attenuator after the out transformer?

Yeah, Ive thought about it......................... but the idea of more than one knob makes me dizzy.

How about some inside pics?

Coming right up.

Edit: Just remember I already did take a inside picture.
There ya go.........(again, the input XLR´s are wired wrong in this picture so dont get any funny ideas.)

Good Morning, music lovers.

Last night I had a chance to record some with these pres.

A familiar tune...................

All sources were miced(sp?) with a Royer ribbon into my pre, then straight into Digi 192 and then into Pro tools.

No EQ or effects were added.

The vocal performance is really poor. And the mic placent on the guitars are to close making them a bit "boomy".

But maybe you can get a feel for the sound.
Thanks.

The input is a OEP X187B. Fairly cheap centertapped primary 600 : 50k thing.
Where did you find x187b oep? Fairly cheap? I could only find them for about 38 euros which is expensive compared to A262A3E. What is the ratio of X187B's windings and why you need 50k secondary?

Sorry for asking so much but i never saw this transformer from OEP. It's nice that bi-metal shield is included.

Otherwise your wiring is very nice, i didn't think it will be so... :green:

And it sounds ok too. I couldn't hear it on my real monitors, but i will do it tomorow.

Nice work you done :thumb:
