The Ligeti piece mentioned I have on CD. Basically, 100 metronomes are set running and they run down. Period. I tried to keep a straight face for as long as possible when I used it in a new powered speaker audition once at Harman.
Ligeti has an amusing story of the premiere. It had been commissioned as part of a dedication ceremony for a new building IIRC. The officials were not amused.
On entrainment: there is this one engineer Uzunoglu who has been pushing his ideas about synchronized oscillators for years, with evidently few takers. He makes some interesting claims about the technique's utility and power compared to phase lock loops.
I tried to run some simulations and got inconclusive results.
