Since last time am hyperactive i have many different weird thoughts!
What do you think about painting submini tube with the black heat resistant paint!
Yes that's right - like AC701 - but this is not about the look!
I don't remember where, but i found some info about submini tubes and their photosensitive nature.
Maybe a little bit o paint wouldn't hurt?

Wasn't something like that, part of the reason the VF14 had that metal outer casing?

I suppose you use a transparent body for the microphone?
(Otherwise it is already pretty dark inside the microphone, so photosensitivity won't be an issue!)

Good one ;)

Unfortunately if the pipe isn't painted inside or it isn't dark mat brass - bulbs like EF732/5840 emit pretty strong light from the heaters. These *******s glowing pretty strong what's reflected inside  microphone body.
I didn't take my question from theory  - i noticed that using submini tubes ;)

I also think that way but from the other side i have proper paint and a tube for test :D
Much more i consider problematic of tube painting - due to heat for instance.
I wonder if the thin layer of paint can short life span or affect any other tube parameter.
Who knows what was originally used in tubes like AC701...

the ac701 black painting contains metallic particles for electromagnetic insolation

Great info!
Thanks!

Still possible to make :)

Mr. Faraday again?

Correct me if i'm wrong but mr Farady  idea is to connect it somewhere?!?

I know it's cage :)
Typical farady cage is grounded at least at the surface.
Cables with so-called farady cage are also connected to ground at least at one point.
Or i'm wrong here and my  examples aren't true faraday cage?

Groove Tubes for a while covered their microphone selected tubes with black heatshrink. A marketing gimmick I'm sure.

Maybe not so bad idea?!?

Dear Tim if you are already here - did you get my PM about two capsules?

After posting about the heatshrink I realized it could dampen microphonic behavior.

Yes I got your PM. Since they'd be non-standard I'm still thinking about it.
