It seems like almost every studio I see has some kind of string lighting, even high-end pro studios.  I noticed some in the Sound City movie, for example.  Is there a reason for this other than the obvious mood-setting ambiance?

I think it's just studio laziness. They put up lights during the holidays many years ago and decided that leaving them up was easier than taking them down.  ;D

It's the cheapest way to get shadowless light. I've been doing it since the 1970s. I just re-saw a 1970s db Magazine photo showing string-lights.
