What changes would you make to the SYT5?

maybe some input from folks that have made some measurements about the acoustic reflections etc. within the headbasket? It seems like the headgrille is both large enough and slanted in ways to help alleviate strong modes, but revisiting it in with modern knowledge of designs could possibly further negate / i.e., improve the space surrounding capsule!

both for this mic and any others that may be developed, it sure would be nice having a protective case that includes the shockmount, or even better, provision for a collective cases tube mic PSU and cables given those mics seem most commonly used in 67 builds as well.

on an even further tanget... can't help but think there is more market need for an m49 donor body like chunger's CU49 that's been OOS for close to a year now IIRC. Those worked well with Dany's boards IIRC, but i'm sure any PCB could be designed around a donor body if the body proves more stable (in stock regularly or ETA of when returning to stock.) boxes for those mics are hard to come by as well,. it feels wrong to put the mics in generic unpadded zipbags!

Lighter. But that would involve moving to aluminum or something, wich could get expensive. Size i guess its ok because it fits better for diy. D-67 could get pretty crammed in there to work in a smaller body for ex...
Outside de syt, would be great if your contractor could make the alctron bv 563 mic with interchangeable heads... That would be fun for diy too..

Its not all that dissimilar to the Behringer B-1 and B2 ,
The one thing the Behringer has I like is the side frame of the headbasket isnt parrallel , might help defuse any reflections more effectively .
The earlier B2-pro also has a detachable headbasket , very similar to what you see in the U87 , a nice extra feature .

As for the looks, I don't like the grooves on the bottom thing that screws on, no idea what's called. It's too shiny, more mat would be nice.

Acoustically it should not have the ridges on the bottom of the headbasket(see the image), and the sleeve should have less mass.

What do you mean by ridges on the bottom of the head basket? The head basket assembly on the SYT5 I have is completely flat

Awesome in that case, the one i had wasn't. Not sure if the ridge is the right term, like here you see how the ring of the headbasket goes above the platform to which the capsule holder is screwed to, making a 90° wall.

I'm thinking of offering a microphone body for DIY based on the SYT5. What changes would you make if you could?

SYT-5 (on the right of my pics)
It's a bit too heavy, too big for no good reason.

We need
207 mm Height
54.5 mm at top of grill, width
55.5 mm at bottom of head diameter
46 mm at bottom (bell)
29 mm just before XLR end
short extrusion of XLR connector
Perfect, just like the thing we are all trying to recreate.

A thinner grill on head, smaller and more open mesh.
As long as inside we can fit a good size PCB.
That's it! What we need.
A Best seller!
