Just when I promised myself that I would not buy anymore PCBs until I've finished the ones on the bench... Oh, well.    ::)

Great, GREAT project!!!

haven't calculated anything yet. all those connectors aren't cheap,
neither the backplane PCB with a thickness of 3.2mm.
Collin (Audiomaintenance) might sell kits.
we will see

the PCBs are invented and designed for Sahib's case ;D

From my point of view Volker certainly has the liberty to supply boards to anyone he wants.

I will first make a prototype using acrylic sheet to see how it all works out. Then I'll shop around for the manufacture to get the best price.

If , as i believe in the last thread we were talking about a couple
points of manufacture to save shipping [ with a kick back to Sahib ? ]
I've got a good guy here in Canada i could check pricing
[ with a mechanical drawing , let me know i'd be happy to help
in a non profit way with distribution as well ]

Hi,
this project is once again a very good example for outstanding people cooperating to provide us with an absolute professional item. Volker talked about his plans with me the other day and it seems that there are a lot of interesting things to come in order to fill this box with top end gear. Chapeau, gentlemen!
regards
Bernd

I would happily supply the CAD drawings. No probs.

Sure you can email me at gboboski at shaw.ca when ready  ,
although maybe with good enough numbers
buying at one location will provide a price break great enough
to overcome shipping , once the two peices are finished
we can check out a few places , think we'll reach 100 ?

if there's a GB , I would certainly need  33 connectors...Regarding the huge interest in here , I'm sure we'll reach several hundreds...

at this time you could also think a GB for XLR too!
24 for one box...

Chapeau, gentlemen!
oh yeah...each time a new project come I'm so amazed...you've crossed the line between diy and pro.

dont go too fast on this one, I  need to finish some projects before starting this one  ::)

I apologize for not reading the entire thread (6 pages already) before I post.
I had an inkling about a project like this a while back. Looked up the frac rack type of things in several suppliers catalogs and they just cost too damn much, before you even factor in power supply and backplane.  The problem is that most of the generic things like a 500 rackare going into LABS at high tech companies. I did some It work at one yesterday that does microwave MANs. Their R&D area was lousy with those frac rack cages.
As far as the info on the pinout etc I was able to get a pdf from API.
When I have more time I'll peruse the rest of this thread.
I'm looking at some of the DIY 500 series boxes out there after I finish my other projects.
