Analog Pitstop, I notice you only signed up on 5th December, so very new here. Second, you promised to post pictures, but never did. Third, the people answering you are all very experienced in tape recorders. You are not, but you seem to think you are. Fourth, we dont know your testing methods, but bear in mind that if you are overloading the electronics, you will get a spectrum full of peaks. Tape recorders got to a very high level of sophistication, but the Revox A77/B77 are very basic machines. Tape path condition, and tape quality, are the most important considerations. If those factors are not at their best, dont expect perfection. And tape has always been to some degree a limited medium. Those who understand its limitations still find it a good medium. And dont slag off Abby, he knows a lot more than you! And its not nice.
I do have to ask, are you a troller? If so, please stop wasting our valuable time.

While the troll definition is allegedly still open, my posts here FOR SURE do not fit, BY FAR, the troll definition which I think it applies normally in the world. Shame for your question.

But, are you one? Same reasons for my question: please consider stop "helping with nothing", and save my much more valuable time as well.
So far, when I see people not having specific expert answers (in this case spectral plots, which cannot be found in internet but would be expected in their daily jobs/expertise, especially since allegedly 50 years of experience): then I suspect them either of hearsay, or pretending or pure&mean misleading stinky lack of character. In general very old people are excused for being exactly so, but still kindly asked to keep it in check to limited amounts. So, too much of either these is much closer to the very definition of Troll, in my opinion.
So, take a mirror and ask: are you one? Tell me the answer if you care.
Stop it! You contacted me via PM with a very specific question regarding R&D experts of "tapes and heads". I gave you the advice to open up a thread in The Lab.

Now I have seen this thread and your behavior here.

My advice to you is:

You have already scared away the finest of Groupdiy here on this topic.

Why are you doing this? If you think you know things better already, why are you asking the group?

Your tone and demeanor are not in keeping with etiquette when you are new to a forum.

Apologize or delete your account and start with this knowledge with a new account! That my best advice I can give you now.

Was ist mit dir los?

Yeah, it's all about presentation. You're framing things very rudely.

Speaking for myself, as someone on the spectrum (formerly called Aspergers, now called ASD [Autism Spectrum Disorder]) I had to learn how to present things in a friendlier way. This was after years and years of problems communicating with people when I ran a BBS in the 80s.

Even all these years later, online communication is still a challenge for me.

Not okay. I suppose I'm one of the "two".
I don't think you've been "slagged". You've been given answers, which you did not accept. It is your privilege, but saying they are full of "pretentiousness" is simply untrue. You may have a language barrier problem, though.
What are those "indecent baseless assumptions" ?
You did not accept my suggestion that tape wobble goes far beyong Wow (under 4Hz) and Flutter (from 4 to 100Hz). Mechanical noise (which is what creates speed variations) extends much further. Just listen to the noise of tape passing on the heads, doesn't it resemble white noise?
Stop pretending you're a martyr and accept that your attitude is unfriendly.
Unlike what you claim, this group may not be big enough for the both of us.

They came to this thread after I posted the question/request to see some spectra.
Don't you think it would have been strange if someone answered before you asked?
They showed no spectra, but started to attack me.
Who did "attack" you?
Why they came in the thread?
I don't think it's a private thread, so any member has a legit right to post in it...
And, about showing no-spectra (eh, how simple is this help for any normal person???): a) no spectra after 50 years?,
That's very likely, because FFT was not very common in the heydays of tape recording. Today FFT is easy, almost anyone can do it with a PC and a soundcard, but the desire is gone, tape recording is more a curiosity than a mainstream media.
or b) no-spectra because they cannot measure (then why trolling?),
This seems to reflect your own way of thinking.:(
or c) is this at all a good definition for "the finest on this topic" in your opinion ?
Language barrier again; I don't know what you mean. Please use terrestrian syntax.

Your question: of course I did not have the spectra (hence I don't have the answers), since I was asking for them.
No, I don't feel like arguing with you. Don't send me any more PMs. I am out.

No I did not post any spectrum, I dont have any. In the early days, we did not have FFT. We used wow and flutter meters and other specialised tools, which work very well. As Abbey has said, tape is now a passing fancy. Most recording is digital.
As to an apology, I note that you are very belligerent in your responses, I have not been and dont intend to be, but I will call you out on bullshit.
If you are unhappy about the responses you have got, then dont keep poking the bear.

too many to repeat.
You're escaping real discussion. If there were attacks, you could name them.
Language barrier, then let's try a rephrasing: ignore me and I'll ignore you.
As a moderator, I can't ignore someone who creates such negative signal-to-noise ratio.
"I don't like it, but I guess..."
I don't understand what you mean...
Stay away from me when you say you are the best in this topic (one which I try to dissect). You remain with a minimum 50% (W&F).
Did I say I'm the best? You're inventing things to prove a point that doesn'texist.

By your reply you have demonstrated that you do not have an understanding of the information presented in an in-depth manner at Manquen.net. All the data and maths involved are presented there. They bear directly with the questions you asked at the beginning and provide the answers.

Goodbye

How and based on what merits or proofs? Just because you want so?
Again, language barrier. Stopping the situation does not mean shutting you up. You can continue your rantings as much as you want, as long as you don't break this group's rules, and accept the possibility of someone not agreeing with you.
It's not about likes, but about proofs. I see none around.
Proof of what, now? What should I prove to you?
If you have no proof but want to make a statement (not to put a question): then you must put your name and credibility at stake "I state with my experience this....
Are you a lawier? Do I have to write "In My Opinion" at the end of every sentence? It is clear that what I write is the reflect of my experience in audio design and maintenance.
Or else, I hope you honor the gentlemen deal
What "gentleman deal"? There is no deal. I'm entitled to my opinions, as much as you, but in addition, I have a duty as a moderator.
to be silent in my threads when you have no proofs
I'm as much entitled as anyone here to express an opinion.
(or phrase such to take no debt for your reputation) to push your opinion in detriment of others.
Do I "push my opinion in detriment of others." ? I just express it with the same words as anyone could use.

Honest, I'm sick and tired of this stupid debate; I would retire but you would take that as a victory, just because you don't even consider the possibility you are wrong.
Did I mention the Dunning- Kruger effect...?

Interesting ! vaguely know the concept empirically but not his name ! Instructive reading.
Now as I am an expert on it (the main effect) I see it like a human PID...then wondering if our new fella have Integral or Derivative issue, but for sure not Proportional 😅

Cheers all, and keep smiling 😇

no science and no R&D.
This is very close to a personal attack.
I shouldn't have to justify myself, but if you think I'm a tinkerer with the only knowledge of what's the right side of a soldering iron, you're wrong.
I'm a certified EE, with 40+ years of pro audio R&D under my belt.

I know what I am doing.
So far, your behaviour and overreacting does not show it.
I came here to ask for some elementary spectra of Studers or similar, and to check if there are experience and interest beyond W&F, if any available.

I am not interested to participate in other threads and topics.
So you're the kind of person interested in taking but not in giving; do we need that?
