quick question...as i'm already confuzzled...

I searched Mouser parts for Xicon Resistor 271-10 and I get a lot of results, I narrowed it down...

is 271-10-RC the same as 271-10 ??

the 10 portion of the number seems to be the OHM value, but I'm unsure on the RC...

I'm using this parts list.

Here's another issue. I suppose I'll just keep using this thread.

Three items I'm ordering from digikey are not available anymore.
I used their live chat and was able to get subs for two of the items, but they said that

Item # AN79L12, which is Regulator 79L12 on the list, is obsolete and no sub is available....I'm waiting to hear from the tech department...

any ideas?

How about ordering a longer one, like this 36 pin 3M 929400-01-36-ND and cutting it up into the lengths you need? That's what I usually do.

aside from the one that wasn't made anymore...the reason i'm asking for some of these subs is that the backorder time on them is like 12-15 weeks...

as excited as i am, i really wouldn't like to wait 3 months to start building this stuff...soooooooo.....

I'm over at mouser now... mouser.com

any subs for Xicon 1/4W 1% Metal Film Resistors
68ohms 1% 50PPM - RoHS: COMPLIANT

still on mouser

i need to find replacements for

271-68-RC

and 271-2.7k

would 71-CRCW1206-2.7K-E3 work? that's what they suggested...and i supposed if it did, the same sort in 68ohm value would work as well...

also, if you take a look at the parts list. maybe you can clarify something for me...

it's got 5 switches listed...i assume these would be ratio attack release, threshold and makeup gain...although two of them are listed as bypass and on/off...

it has 4 potentiometers...

then it lists 7 knobs... two knobs for bypass/on off...and 5 for the other stuff...

so we have 9 switches...and 7 knobs??? and aren't the bypass and on/off supposed to be buttons???

perhaps i'm missing something here...or perhaps this isn't what i'm looking for as far as this part...

looking around the gallery and what not, i see that there's obviously a lot of options. with all these options there obviously comes the issue of requiring the know-how to pick what works and what doesn't.

i simply can't abandon all hope here, but as you guys can see, i'm more than just over my head at this point. i'm blindly ordering stuff according to a list and even if i manage to have you guys help me get all the parts (thanks for the help so far, btw), i'm not going to be able to troubleshoot or anything...

there's got to be a starting point for someone like me. how much of a starting point? well...i really don't understand any of it. is there a book that would be helpful, at this point, on building audio equipment? what now...

I think I made that parts list sometime in 2004, and all the resistors need the RC behind them because of RoHS. Many of the other parts are also obsolete or no longer stocked.

I'll answer your switch question, though...

5 switches
Ratio
Attack
Release
Bypass
On/Off

2 panel mount potentiometers

These 7 parts require knobs.

Then the 2 5x10mm pots are mounted directly to the PCB for distortion trimming.

I think I'll point you in the same direction Ptownkid did. Check out the SSL Meta and give that big huge SSL Help Thread a nice read. Get a pen and some paper and take some notes. I usually spend several weeks researching and try to understand a project before I just order parts. I understand the excitement of building gear but if you do your homework I think the whole experience with be that much better.

Good luck.

Ahhh! Thanks for clearing that up.

I suppose I'll read through that...It just seems that every person on here (with much more knowledge then me) has done this variation and that variation...
