1272 - 2N3055 off board placement?

I'm about to build some 1272s. Could it cause a problem if I placed the 2N3055 off board for better cooling? It would probably need some centimeters of additional leads, but since hfe of that transistor is quite low this shouldn't cause any oscillation? Is this a silly assumption?

The stock 3055 had pretty low gain bandwidth. Modern devices are typically much faster so that could impact stability.

Sounds like something to breadboard and see what happens.

There were official Neve console LS amps built exactly this way, 1276 and others - it’s tried and tested.

you could wire it off board for sure, but why do you think you need better cooling?

The 2N3055 with an heatsink has all the cooling needed for this circuit,
it's been used like that in all the BA183 and BA283 cards and never presented any problem,
why trying to reivent the wheel?
