Hey guys, how difficult would it be make a 500 series module with just a volume fader and a pan knob? I like the idea of a modular console using lunchboxes. I’m pretty much there, with pres, eqs, and now a capi sumbus. I know it’s not necessary to have the faders at this point, but I’d like to play around with an all analog setup at some point.

Not hard, but often pricier and more involved than one'd think at first glance.

For neve style, you could do something like this + a fader, pretty cheap.

I have four of the 500 serie 1073 line amps:

Very nice sounding and great price and quality. But I guess it's more like the preceding module to the eq/fader inline in the typical console strip, with more gain and stepped switch.

For API style you could do the Capi 2 stage line amp PCB, but honestly I think the Missing Link 500 module is the right way to go. I whish there was a stereo version!

But it gets expensive fast if you want a bunch of channels, and again stepped switching and not faders.

You could of course do cheaper modern ic opamp designs, something akin to the Speck faderbank unit:

Curious on nice sources for good quality faders, especially long throw stereo ones with acceptable LR tracking. The Alps from Reichert would probably be my best bet, or the Allen Heath replacement ones from mouser (expensive though, but can take a beating)
