hi, anybody know if it would be easy and cheap to build an aes to s/pdif cable (and s/pdif to aes of course)? any loss in signal quality? thanks.

You know the format isn't the same but close enough for most purposes, right ?

From AES/EBU to S/PDIF is easy:

http://www.epanorama.net/documents/audio/spdif.html

(the following copy/paste will be distorted, but you can see it can be done easily)

Code:
AES/EBU to S/PDIF signal level converter
AES out: 2-------330 ohm-----+------------- SPDIF in
                               |
           3--+ 91 ohm
              | |
           1--+------+---------+-------------
                     |
                     -
                ground

(Thanks to MCS)

Bye,

Use code for that

Code:
AES/EBU to S/PDIF signal level converter
AES out: 2-------330 ohm-----+------------- SPDIF in
                               |
           3--+ 91 ohm
              | |
           1--+------+---------+-------------
                     |
                     -
                  ground

To connect an S/PDIF signal to an AES/EBU input, this should work:

Here's a quote from my DA-12 page:

It works just fine with S/PDIF signals. Just connect the inverting input to ground through a 10n cap and connect a 237R resistor from the input to ground.

It works with the Crystal receivers at least...
