It shouldn't be, otherwise you're going to slam the input of whatever is going to come after your compressor.

I am aiming for something like the attached. Not currently showing the external input and sum.
The idea being that the opamp and vactrol combo will act as a sidechain limiter, where the 50K trim sets the limit amount (although looking at it again I am not sure if this is a limiter or compressor...). So this can be turned on or off to give a fixed maximum compression valve. I have placed the vactrol (VTL) resistor before the buffer feeding the Threshold pot as I do not want this feature to be threshold dependent.
Not actually sure if this will work, but it seemed to be the easiest solution...
Other than that I hope it is a pretty standard circuit with not too many errors. It is pretty basic and not sure if needs optimising, but i will breadboard it and see how I get on!
