Can anyone identify this 2-channel input module I found lurking in back of our repair shelf? It has four edge connectors on the rear panel - two for each channel, but I don't have mating connectors or power supply to match. I can take internal pictures if it helps.

thanks!
Adam

Thanks Ian -

I've never seen Tweed gear before, but I looked some Tweed consoles up and you might be right. The circuit boards in this piece resemble Neve boards, too. Were Neve and Tweed related?
Yes, Tweed and Neve were kind of related. When I was there in the mid 70s the main factory was in Melbourne in Hertfordshire. The module factory was a couple of hundred miles or so north in a place called Kelso. Sometime late in the 70s (edit: I think it was actually as early as 1973) the production manager at the Kelso factory left Neve and set up his own console manufacturing company which he called Tweed. The giveaway for Tweed consoles is they continued to use the Neve style largish dots to represent switch positions.

Cheers

I have been working on 3 different Tweed pieces recently, & this doesn't look like any of the ones I have had in the workshop.

Can you post some pics of the internals, what op amps is it using ?
Hi Rob, do you happen to have any Tweed schematics?

Cheers

I will post some gut shots, but not until Friday when I'm back in the shop. It looks very "Neve-y" inside, except for the cylindrical transformers.

The AWA transformers may be Australian but the AWA brand was affiliated with RCA I. The US in the 60s and 70s. Maybe these are from a broadcast console. Looks beefy!

That is a Dual Input module from an AWA console, often regarded as the Australian Neve.

Yep. There’s a complete console here in Melbourne, Coloursound Studios. And quite a few racked up dual modules. They are brilliant, and AWA made a bunch of gear both original designs and a few things made under licence from or for RCA.

Here is the rest of it.

Not a bad design. Typical dc coupled pair with PNP input for low noise, added emitter follower on the output plus bootstrapped second stage. I do like the "capacitance multiplier" smoothing circuit on the power rail. An improvement of the 1000uF or so Neve fitted across the supply..

Cheers

Ian

I joined up the schematic pages so it reads easier.
