Changing the extension name of a file being used with Windows isn't immediately obvious. Windows hides the actual file extension from you unless you make a few tweaks in File Manager. Many videos and articles on this topic if you do a search. I searched "changing file extension names windows 10" and came up with many hits. Here are a few at random from the first page of the search.

Looks nice, but without one side being flat to the work surface, there is a huge overhanging area which won't print without supports. Unfortunately one of the downsides of 3D printing, due to the laying-down of hot gooey filament under the influence of gravity, is that not every design will print well. Those with at least one large-ish flat side are usually the most successful.

I'm gonna wait until you figure out how to download and rename the CAD-files and then be able to import them into your printer before I go ahead and attach another STL file that you can't use. Leave a comment once that happens, OK??? Either that, or.....if Ian wants to possibly offer some type of "conversion" service for you (i.e., he can download and import my STL file into his printer software and then turn-around and re-output it in a format that your printer will accept. I don't know.....).

Thanks to Brian's tip, the file was immediately accepted by the Bambu app, and the part popped up on my build plate. I can now go ahead and print it. Thanks all for your forbearance (and fooey to Bill Gates!)

Printing now.. I'm printing it solid (zero infill), in Bambu PETG, which is my preference with any mechanical parts. Stated time till completion is 27 mins. Will post pics later..

I just printed a sample part in PLA, and it turned out great. Currently, it's probably much too cold in the garage to successfully print ABS (even with my enclosed printer), and I don't print ABS inside my home because of the fumes. That'll be a project for a warmer day.

No worries, it's all fixed and I just printed the first one. See my next post, w/ pics..
 
Here's my first attempt (pics attached)..
I grabbed a couple of sockets for some pics. The mounting hole centers are spot on for these, though the main center hole could be a lot smaller, and the max. height greater than it needs to be. But it's definitely promising.

You don't need ABS, PETG will probably work just fine.

I don't mind the self-tapping screw option. I think the side profile is too slim and might lack rigidity. A larger cross-section wouldn't go astray.

OK.....review the drawing shown below and simply replace all of the "Letter" dimensions with your -- ideal -- numeric dimensions of what would work best for you and post a comment showing a list of what each "Letter" should be be numerically, OK???

Yes, after trying to rename the file as .stl, if I open up Bambu Studio and try to Import, that file does not appear for selection. When I search for it outside the Import folder, it's there but the file name/suffix has reverted to .txt (it may have .stl .txt, but has always reverted to .txt).
PS - I don't know what 'file manager' is. I'm on Win10 and it doesn't appear to be a thing. I just rename after a right mouse click.
This sounds like some weird quirk of Windows. By file manager I mean whatever program you use to navigate directories (folders? in windows) and access individual files. When you right click a file name, is there an option to rename it?

If you PM me your email address I can send you the file already with a .stl extension.

Edit: Oops, I did not see Bri's excellent response. Why is Windows like that?

I just watched those two Windows tutorial videos and I am stunned by how misleading they are, not to mention the stupid pop up box you get every time you want to change the extension to a file name, not to mention how dumbed down Windows makes the user feel. Is there any way that pop up can be disabled?

I know, it's almost as if Bill Gates designed Windows in order to monopolise the computer OS market, rather than to help make people's lives simpler 8>)

Well, I have to say that, while writing some new dimensions for your design, I found that it was just getting back closer to the original.
The original design has (IMO) some key elements that you've deleted in yours. Namely, a longer foot (for stability), the scallop in the foot (which allows the tube to sit lower while preserving material around the attachment holes), and the extra holes to allow different axial positioning of the socket.
One thing I think might be added the original is your idea of blind holes in the foot for self-tapping screws (as an additional option to the through-holes).

It kinda makes sense because I suspect the majority of Windoze users are totally non-technical and wouldn't know what an EXE or DLL file is.

Btw, thanks to Abbey Rd for supplying the original files. Pic 1 shows his second version (22mm hole), with socket fastened and a valve inserted. It works with both surface-mount and sub-chassis mount sockets (at least 'vintage' US ones, anyway).

I printed the first version with the smaller hole (18.25mm), which fits the socket OK, but, in the case of the sub-chassis mount socket shown here, leaves the socket too deeply recessed (see 2nd pic), preventing full insertion of the valve pins. The 22mm hole version fixes that, as it allows enough clearance for the valve.

IMO, the 22mm hole version is almost perfect, although a smaller overall size might work better in some circumstances.
