How about Shuaiyin capsules? Are they as good as 797 or it's what we find in AliExpress?
Tempted to try a DAP CM87 for some mod, it seems the same mic as Shuaiyin SYC1000.

My hope in the upcoming year is @poctop makes a PCB, @chunger or group buy for bodies, shockmount and case, and @soliloqueen develops a CK12. @Moby already has a stellar transformer option.
I'll never buy from mic and mod, no mic is needed that badly in my book.
I don't think she's interested in making a CK12 at this time. 3U Audio's CK12 should be out this year I think.

Weird, ShuaiYin just replied to me and said they don't sell retail and minimum order is 50 pieces. Granted I was asking for a full kit and not just bodies but it still seemed like out of an individual buy range.

I think from what I gathered, if they have overruns from OEM supplier runs for other companies lying around they will sell them individually. When I bought some stuff recently they would only let me have one or two each of the vintage style mic bodies I wanted, and for most of my requests they said “sorry that model is out of stock at this time.” So I got 2 47fet bodies and an m49 body and that’s it even though I wanted some other stuff like the 414 body. You could try again in a month or something. Someone should really stock them though. $4.5 grand is a lot for a minimum order of 50 units at $89 each though… Plus tax and shipping. Brutal. I still don’t see why Mic & Mod is charging that much though, if the price is $89 each they are almost quadrupling their money on a mic body sale. Seems pretty lame IMHO.

They'll charge whatever the market will take / put up with. Although the pricing is indeed weird if you think you can get a used genuine 414 for ~$500, and a brand new one for ~$1k (or less). Not to mention it'll cost you another couple hundred for a good capsule & transformer, and then the time & parts to design (or hire someone to design & make) you the electronics to fit that body.

Then again, it surely doesn't cost Neumann / Telefunken even $1k to put together a U47, and yet they'll charge you ~$10-15k for the privilege of buying one. Iphones allegedly cost $4-500 to make, and yet people will gladly shell out over $1k for one, just because.

The kit sold by Mic and Mod comes with a PCB and a capsule, which looks like a typical Chinese edge terminated one, and it's a transformerless mic. At that point it makes more sense to grab a used current production C414 to me since you're already spending $550 before taxes and shipping to get the kit.

I used to work as Korg product manager/specialist. You would be shocked how much the gear actually costs at factory, and you would probably never buy a new piece of gear at a shop again. M&M quadrupling the price are actually being kind. Not that i'm trying to defend them. At volume i'm sure the price of that body is not above 60$.

Has something happened that means AKG / Harman no longer go after people who copy the 414 shape? They used to protect it quite fiercely IIRC.

Peluso has been selling their tx+ model for some time, surely AKG is aware of it, but not sure what to conclude from that. Also wonder if the long barrel base impacts IP concerns. "we have deep respect..."

I'd be in for a pair!
