I got hold of a 100x pack of 4.7M metal film resistors off Ebay as I need 60-odd for the Bluzzi 2 x 1084 EQ project I have underway. They're el-cheapo no name resistors - $6 for 100 - the leads are pretty flexible, and not quite as nice as Xicons the I usually opt for. Unfortunately Mouser were out of 4.7Ms Xicons when I placed my order, and the 'substitutes' I ordered are 4.75M and turned out being half the length of the rest of the resistors on the board. I'm a bit anal about PCB appearance and the fact they're not the exact recommended value means two strikes and they're out.
But i'm not super impressed with these new resistors either... perhaps my standards are too high though. What am I asking? I don't know. I guess what I want to know is - are metal film resistors all in the same, or do different brands lead to perceivably different outcomes in pro audio?
