Can we imagine a modular 2 Rack unit Stuff ? with changeable front pannels for the different filter flavour ? Like Lavry blue rack, or the sound skulptor preamp ?

WeII, functionaIIy, neither as Iavry moduIar nor as scuIptor's box, because the front is just a digital control for up to 7 bands/filters/etc;
but yes, it going to be very serious mastering unit, as I can see from how the filters are measuring and hear how do they sound.

The last stop was on front panel, I continuing from this point:

I am also fascinated to see what this is going to look like by the end...  Absolutely incredible that this is being put together as a DIY project...

To regret or discourange (or absolutely not) ;)
The digital part is absolutely not DIY-able.

To encourage and make you happy.
After some thinking, the digital part and motherboard will be assembled on Israeli factory
and tested by us; we can sell them as a platform for DC UNI-Q and avoid some of your headache.
As well, customized front panels will be available from us, too.

The filters and their control chips will be awailable for DIY.

There going to be about 20 types of filters, 2 types of input/output boards, summing, level and MS board.

The best news are: all Sontec filters are tested and have their control chips up and bugless.

The UBER news: the REAL (not Ch**r) EMI EQ filters, TG12412, will be available as well!

Lot of freaky inductors..... Prepare to watch the BEAST!

completely crazy my friend :)

I think I could personally have pulled off the whole build but it is good for most builders that several parts are going to be pre-built and tested...

Good stuff Igor...

Sounds great!

Although the sound of the TG is very much in the transformers, they don't sound the same rack mounted out of the console...have used both.

Hey Ben,

I say you mention this elsewhere recently.  What are those transformers?- Gardners or something custom?  Do you think the 200 Ohm standard has an effect on the results? (It would seem an awfully difficult load for most modern gear).

Cheers,
Ruairi

Hi Ruairi,

I'm not an expert on the TG circuit, but our tech has always said that the transformers are the TG sound, and without them it's not a TG. They were made by EMI. here's some information from the manual:

"The left and right signals from the transpose button pass to input transformers which step down in the ratio of 1.732 : 1 thereby reducing a standard line level input signal of l.228 V (+ 4dBm in 600ohm) to 0.709 V (+ 4dBm in 200ohm), this being the standard internal interconnection level. Since the input impedance is bridging, the transformer loss is negligible.

Output level

The nominal output level (corresponding to 0VU) is 1.228V r.m.s. into open circuit. Each output is capable of delivering 11V r.m.s. (approx. +23dBm) into a load of 600 ohms or greater."

Well, not just the trannies, sound passing lot of stages in their console.
Regarding the filters, I just wanted to build this bunch - of - inductors - and - caps thingy for a loong time.
Actually, the REAL TG EQ unit using specific single L-C values for each of 3(!!!) for sharp - med - broad Q settings of every frequency.
So, relay matrix and digital control for these filters is better IMO solution than multi-waffer ELMA's and tones of wiring.

Any news about this amazing project ? a launching date ? an estimation of the cost of the motherboard + digital part ?

can't wait. with TG flavour...  ;D

Well... The digital part is fixed. The rest should be ready in 2012, including 2-3 first proto's....

Ho-ho!
Getting closer and closer... Da real roboporn!!!!
True, hairy, analog, comparing with today's oversqueezed stuff!

Now.... Ask me what can do here parity checker logic!!!! And don't tell me I am crazy!!!!! Hahahahahahah!!!!!!
