I've heard some celebrities claiming that their own agents tell them what to say, in order to conform to Hollywood ideology, otherwise they basically get banned from any movie or from working in the industry.
She is almost too old and too famous to get cancelled by hollywierd. She is promoting a new chick buddy movie with several like minded aging female actors. I think the flick is probably getting OK reviews and will likely do OK with all the well known actors.

Speaking of movies has anybody watched "everything, everywhere, all at once"? I had recorded it to my DVR a few months ago but decided to finally watch it after I saw in the news how many Oscar nominations it got (11?). A very strange quirky movie. I won't even attempt to describe it. I didn't erase it, I may watch it again to see if it makes more sense the second time through.

I no longer watch any movies, I find the underlying ideology and indoctrination unbearable.

they turn their eyes to the rest of the world and think they can 'save' the world by preaching their 'ideas', without actually going to those places which actually need help, or doing anything useful about it; never mind putting their ideas to the test. It is just something they do to feel good about themselves.

Sounds like what the US is doing all the time...

Unless, of course, you consider war useful.

Opinions vary. Ironically perhaps under ex-President Trump we were winding down international conflicts. The current administration is full-in feeding the Ukraine conflict, arguably a proxy war between Russia and the west. BTW Zelensky just fired several members of his administration due to corruption charges, but that seems like business as usual for that part of the world.

I was opposed to the Viet Nam police action (cough), mainly because I was draft age, and actually conscripted (1970). Soldiers back then were openly disrespected in public.

Jane holds a special place in the memory of many veterans of that era for her blatant anti-US propaganda, even though her actions were protected free speech. She has since admitted regret for her actions back then (1972). Maybe if she lives long enough she will regret linking climate change to racism?

John, even though I believe that people shouldn't be judged by their careers, appearances or line of work, the truth is that they are actors for many reasons, and they are not scientists or intellectuals for exactly the same reasons. The problem arises when they think they know better just because they are famous, and they also think that fame equals wisdom.

So weird I was just thinking about this. Hard not to visualize the drama students from high school when thinking about it....
I've had more interesting conversations with the metalheads or even some goth kids if I'm honest...

Agree. The much larger problem is when a significant fraction of the general population believes what these people spew from their lofty platforms of publicity.
Just look at who are the spoke persons for humanity: an angry 20 year old Swedish girl, Whoopi Goldberg, Jane Fonda, and Bill Gates.

The world's rule is this: If you win an Oscar, you have the right to tell us stupid people what to do during your acceptance speech.

We live in a world where actors and TV personalities lecture us on profound and complex topics of science, but Supreme Court judges with Harvard degrees can't tell you what a woman is because they are not "biologists"

Critical thinking is a skill that can be learned even later in life, while some never learn.

Advertising/marketing is the study of the science of persuassion. I have read many books on the subject over the decades. When you are aware, the sleight of hand becomes visible and easier to ignore.

Here is a recent example... There are dog food commercials running on TV right now that say "if you dog scratches or smells bad, it may indicate a problem with the dog food you are feeding it." That's what dogs do! People stupid enough to believe that probably shouldn't own dogs but it's better than them raising children. ;)

PS: Another theme like famous people thinking they are smart and should tell us how to behave, this is even stronger in wealthy people. Just look at the Davos crowd lecturing us about what we should do. Davos looks like a tea party held for Bond super villains, or a caucus to select the next leader of the free world.

I am just about to read a book entitled The Daughter of Time. Although fiction, it is a salutary lesson in how history ends up being written. The book explores how history is constructed, and how certain versions of events come to be widely accepted as the truth, despite a lack of evidence and/or any logical plausibility.

Interesting, the favorite words of these people are "Science" and "Scientists", followed/anteceded by "predict", "warns us", "has shown", "follow [the]", "I believe in". You can clearly see that it is a religion, just replace the word "Science" or "Scientists" by "God".

The TX state senate just passed bills to create 10 GW of on demand NG electricity generation capacity to prevent a replay of the catastrophic power shortage that killed 200 people in 2021 when freezing weather stopped the renewable sources.

The government subsidies for renewable energy makes NG uncompetitive for normal energy supply to the TX power grid.

JR

PS: FWIW my local MS clean coal (cough) power plant has been burning NG for years since it became cheaper than clean coal.

Renewable energy is the term used for useless and impractical forms of power generation, which have the sole purpose of making the anointed (as Thomas Sowell calls them) feel good about themselves. And since feelings are the metric for most of what humanity does nowadays, renewable energy makes sense in the minds of the anointed.

not true, but absolutely believable:

Just bought it for less than a dollar on Amazon Kindle, thanks!

Useless and impractical?

You own shares in the petroleum industry?

Electricity wholesale prices in Europe were negative the past weeks, due to lots of wind and sun. If you depend on US press, you probably haven't heard about it.

Far from useless, if you ask me.

OTOH the wood pellets made from US forests that were cleared for fracking, are not renewable. But the scam continues...
So, old electricity plants in the UK were converted from coal to pellets, with a small mountain of money from the EU. They of course spread dioxin as wood contains it naturally.

This AOC quote sounds like it might be fake.

She can't possibly be that ignorant. 🤔
