I don't know if you find this interesting, but the old Swedish Radio consoles I've been digging through uses these as make-up amps:
Germanium line amps with a max gain of 48dB. I haven't checked what gain is set to.
Also, here's the passive equalizer used in series (at the end of the chain) with the HS10 & TS10 (no schematic, sorry):
