If you are building a Mixer or a Small Summing Mixer, I advise you to get and reference the Geoff Tanner's Technical Information Sheets, you can get info on how to purchase them here:

http://auroraaudio.net/forums/topic/sound-on-sound-magazine-reviews-technical-information-sheets

It covers a variety of topics:

The 31 topics take up a total of 44 pages and they are broken down into the following headings:-

1.Decibel tables – Illustrating the difference between voltage/current and power ratios.
2.The Decibel – An explanation of how dB ratios work.
3.Reed Matrix Information – The pin functions of the most common reed relay circuit boards
4.Calculating Attenuators – How to calculate attenuators for a given dB loss
5.Bus-bar do's and dont's – How to calculate a resultant bus level and impedance
6.Pan-pots – How to design a stereo pan pot with 3dB loss at the centre
7.Oscillators – How to calculate the components for a Wein Bridge Oscillator
8.DC switching and click suppression – How to minimize switching clicks
9.Transformers – Typical resonant terminations for most output transformers
10.Mixing arrangements with less than 10 feeds – Special considerations
11.Attenuator chart – Values from -1dB to -80dB for 10Kohm and 600ohm attenuators
12.Studer remote control details – For A80, B62 and C37 tape recorders
13.P & G Multi-track faders – How to minimize crosstalk between tracks
14.Design considerations for oscillator switching – To minimize breakthrough
15.Do's and Dont's of console design – plus a parallel resistor rapid calculator.
16.Gain boost chart – For BA283, 3411 & 5 front, 3415, 16 and 3513 rear, 3411/12 rear.
17.Virtual Earth Mixing – Calculations and explanations.
18.Bus Level Calculation Chart – Gives the resultant bus level from six different bus resistors.
19.Coupling Capacitor Value – Formula to calculate value for 0.1dB drop at 20Hz into load R
20.Calculation of Amplifier Gain – Both inverting and non-inverting modes.
21.Bus-bar Resistor Comparison Chart – What resistor to use for a different input level.
22.Pre-fade Mixing Arrangements – Taking a pre-fade mono-mix from a Stereo source
23.Design of Stepped Attenuators – How to calculate each step of the switch
24.Design of Calibrated Potentiometers – How to calculate +/- dB range potentiometers.
25.Switch “Trickery” - How to design clever switch functions.
26.Use and characteristics of Amplifiers – Input Z, Headroom, and how the amplifiers function.
27.Coupling Capacitors – Further thoughts on the choice of coupling capacitors
28.Ohm's Law Nomogram – Place a rule across the columns to calculate any unknown.
29.Design of remote gain boost potentiometers – to drive multi-track faders and mixes.
30.Typical Recording Studio Layout – Explains contemporary functions like “Overdub”
31.Potentiometer Slugging – What resistor to use for -10dB at half rotation.

Plus a chart giving the gain boosting required for rare 3401 and 3402 Line amplifiers

I realise that this is an old thread but I'm wondering whether someone has this CD. I can't find it online I think.

You can contact Geoff Tanner directly.
He is quite active on Facebook but if you need his email just PM me

Thank you. Is it free of he charges for it? I had the impression that's it's free but now I'm not sure anymore.

First post in this thread says "Purchase"

From 2016, Geoff's words:

"I have sold these Tech Sheets in the past in three hole binders for $50 + post/packing but this more versatile format I intend to sell for $40 as a CD I mail to you. Please add another $10 if I am mailing to clients outside the USA. For that payment you are getting a piece of history and a great deal of technical know-how in very simple terms.

I use a drop box now and charge $40 for the password to the files that you can download directly to your PC/Mac. Once downloaded I delete the drop box files.

Please respect my copyright though and don't copy and resell the data... I would really appreciate that consideration."

OK fair enough. I stand corrected :) I'll drop him an email. Thanks.

Thank you for your post.

I have been trying to contact him since the beginning of this year through the messaging function on the Aurora Audio home page, but he has not responded.
I would like to contact him and purchase the "technical-information-sheets" in an official way. How can I pay him?

Best,

I think Aurora has seen better days….
Probably is not one of the main focus of Geoff at the present, I remember him saying that he was paying too much for the hosting service so probably the email server is not working any longer.

Geoff is quite active on Facebook, I have him as a friend and he posts regularly there, you should try to message him in Facebook

He is also the administrator in the “Vintage Neve” page in Facebook

I forgot to say, there was a nice forum in the Aurora Audio website before, it had a lot of important and interesting information on Neve stuff, unfortunately it's gone, it's a shame really.

Twice gone actually! The original (Phoenix Audio?) forum with all it's contents was lost many years ago - a LOT of information just disappeared. But yeah, the replacement forum had a bunch of great stuff too. :(

I have a cache of text files from Geoff's posts on rec.audio.pro. I don't know if these are also on his CD-ROM, but they were posted to a public forum so I think it is ok to share them.

Thank you so much for sharing those docs, really good information there.

I didn't know about "Phoenix Audio forum", did it belong to Geoff or it was related to the previous UK company "Phoenix Audio" (I think it's owned now and based in the US) ?

The Aurora Audio forums can still be accessed with Wayback machine, some threads are still accessible over there,
it's a wealth of usefull information that is on the verge of getting lost, I remember learning a lot by reading this:

Thank you for your reply.
I will try to contact him on facebook.

I was able to search for old Aurora Audio website, I can see now that Geoff was also part of Aurora in the past.
The sections "Neve Stories" and "Tips n Tricks" of the Aurora Website are still accesible in wayback machine, but I couldn't find any forum:

I tried to contact him via facebook DM.
I look forward to his reply.

I have a pair of PDF docs I bought form Geoff Tanner a few years back when I was refurbing my Neve 5432. Somehow I lost the password to the PDFs so I can no longer open them. Sent emails but no response. If anyone has the PDF passwords, could you PM them to me please?
