is there a close up picture of the underside of the SSL PCB anywhere? I want to check mine for solder bridges against an empty board...

look at well the pdf, u will see the underside of the PCB. U will find the pdf with the layout on Gyraf website, DIY ssl clone. It's a bit before the pic of the frontpanel of the GSSL, before PCB resources, it's written: "The Schematics, Component placement, and the (reversed) PCB layout for The Clone (650Kb pdf-file, PCB Rev#9, SCH Rev#7)". CLick on the link and you will have the layout with the underside.

I did this in Photoshop, flipped it, so looking at the printed page is like looking at the solder side of PCB.
  Hope this helps,
                      Chip

thanks Jacob, pkarr and audiophreak - the .pdf has what I need...I thought they were only schematics - should try to read better.... ;)

hi
just finished my first GSSL yesterday . at least so far to come to the first testphase.(just plugged it in yesterday at 3 am)
i only had one little thing : i forgot  ???  to wire the exernal transformer in series , so the led from the meter would go out when the treshold was turned up.(+dB)

seems to work fine so far , though i experience some hum : will try using shielded cable to and from the in/output to pcb and there is an extra PCB from expataudio especially for that reason ? (some more dc filtering i guess ? ) anything else i could do ?

the other thing that´s unusual : at extrem compressor settings it won´t make up for the lost gain anymore though makeup is turned full up. or at least it sounds like there´s not an increase in gain at all with any setting . is that the usual thing with the gssl ? got very different experience with other compressors that could blow your next stage with gainmakeup or output .

I think you might have your threshold and make up gain pots wired wrong.  None of the things you described are normal for a gssl.  The issue with the threshold and LED isn't to do with your transformers.  I've had that happen to me before and I can't remember off the top of my head what the problem was.  I think it might have been due to an incorrectly wired bypass switch.

Oh, sorry, you meant your power transformer.  I thought you meant output transformers.  My mistake.
Yeah, that'll definately make a difference then!

Is the hum still there now that you're power trafo is correct?

i have a couple of questions im hoping someone didnt have the same problem

My gssl is together and compressing but my auto release function is distorted

do those lorlin switches need to be installed in a certain position?

i did adjust them with the little ring for the amount of positions they should turn

also my left channel is hotter than my right channel any ideas, could this be a short?

any help is appreciated, I am a newbie

thanks!!

Has anyone used this wiring does it work?

THANKS

Don't use the 12V rails for powering relays. Any fluctuations in these will cause a slight change in level since the VCA's  CV uses the 12V rails as well...

sorry , should have been more clear , but yes , the hum is still there . have tried using shielded mic-cable to in/output and lay the ground to xlr input ,it got a lot better but still ...  i use quite a cheap toroid i bought for 5 at a sale out . any chance that may come from the powertransformer itself ?

thats what i did , and i don´t think that´s a possible cause . since the release is a 2pole ,and you got a pcb , it´s just not possible to get it wrong.
wether it won´t fit , or it´s simply upside down and still works the same but turned 180 degree. right ?
you may want to doublecheck polarities of electrolyt caps , ic´s and diodes , and then maybe look for solderpins having a connection where non should be.
this could easily happen ,the pins are sometimes quite narrow by eachother.

Very simple question (read dumb), but can anyone shed some light on the little headers and interconnect clips used by so many builders. I have looked on Mouser but cant find small PCB mount 10, 5 and 3 pin headers and clip sockets.

I probably am not using correct search terminology to find these parts. If someone can post a mouser code or at least tell me what these are called I would be greatfull.
