short question,

I've finished another GSSL with Turbo & SSC.
It works great except one thing:
When turn it on so the compressor is in bypass, the needle hits the very left for about 2 or 3 seconds, then it slowly returns to the "0" position.
audio wise this is accompanied by a very loud output of the GSSL for the above mentioned 2 or 3 seconds then the level returns to normal.

The strange thing is, this is only when I power on the GSSL into bypass mode. When I power it on with compressor engaged it doesn't occur - UNTIL I switch in bypass for the first time after powering on

So it has to be something that comes before the compressor side-chain circuit.

It's a version 11 pcbs and I have to add, that instead of the 15k resistors in the output circuit I used a 10k resistor + a 10k trimmer to fine trim it to unity gain...but that couldn't be the problem could it?

Thanks for any ideas!!

EDIT: solved. I forgot to cut that one pin of the 2180. As soon as I did the GSSL behaved normal :)
Hello, do you have a copmplete drawing of the GSSL with Turbo and SSC?. Thx for yr efforts. B.R. Thomas

it’s been the worst audio related experience.
Darn, I honestly envy you if you really believe this to hold true. And you even got your money back?

But please, keep this sort of public laundry outside of the Giant GSSL Help Thread - we are trying to keep it as clutter free as possible

Can someone give me a link for decent quality buttons (UK only) like the attached pic please? Many thanks.

Dear all,

I was experiencing some weird behavior while trying out the compressor (vanilla state), so I started doing some measurements with the scope at the xlr input and xlr output on one channel.
Input --> 1kHz sine wave 1Vpp.
Attached two pictures with
1) sidechain bypassed (compression switch not engaged) and,
2) compression switch engaged with the threshold poti turned completely to the right.

Is that ca. 0.5Vpp attenuation normal even with bypassed sidechain?
Also, It seems that I get compression even when threshold poti is at its maximum. Is this normal operation?

I soldered 27k resistors before input of the THat 2181 circuits.

Also how do you guys calibrate the meter? I guess this is a well answered question but I am curious for new input.

Thanks for your comments!

p.s The make up gain is completely down with both measurements.

Hi.
I´m going to build a GSSL, starting out with the basic unit without mods.
When looking at frontpanels I see there is a lot of diffrent configurations and I want to choose one for a possible future modification.
But I´ve reading these threads for weeks now and I really dont understand all the Supersidechain, turbo, TM,TL oxford etc.
Can someone explain or point me to a post in a thread where it is explained.

The -6db could come from using unbalanced output? Or are you using a balanced input to your scope?
Right! No, input to scope is unbalanced (signal and ground).
-6db would be the attenuation factor of 2 that I am seeing. I missed that. Thanks!

The strange behaviour I was mentioning was when operating in stereo (balanced lines too). Sometimes one channel will shut completely off. And also there was some gain mismatches between both channels. Anyway,I have do tomorrow more tests in stereo operation and hopefully post some more data :)
