Ahhh, yes, Thanks for your input K Brown...As I said, it came so cheaply I never checked...Now I have: It is a Hypercardioid capsule, which pleases me greatly (vs. Omni, as originally described, which would have been okay also...). To quote from a reliable source:

"The KM 185 is a hypercardioid FET pencil condenser. It is the newest addition to the “Series 180” microphones, which includes the well-known KM 184 cardioid and KM 183 omni microphones.

The capsule in the KM 185 is Neumann’s model K 50, developed in 1988. Is a pressure-gradient transducer with a gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragm. Internally, the K 50 capsule is identical to Neumann’s AK 50 capsule."

There we go!...but I still wonder if I have to seal (tape over) the CAD machining originally designed for their cardioid capsule????...

Blessings
No, not neccessary to cover the vents on the mic body; the vents on that hyper capsule are behind the solid plastic plate you see in the back of the capsule, so the mic body's vents will have no effect.

Very Good and thank you again! I should have thought of that ("Chemo Brain"). I'll mod the Cmc5-style circuit board as I have done many times before (audio grade electrolytics, wima bypass caps, genuine toshiba fet, better 1 Gig resistors) and give it a whirl. I should have some audio clips in a couple weeks....it will be interesting...
