Both are equally incorrect. The point that should be connected to the chassis ground is the reference of the regulators (or the last smoothing caps if there's no regulator).

Are you saying bond the mains transformer secondary center tap to the same point as the regulator reference? I've never had much luck leaving the secondary floating.

The secondary's center tap is a dirty node. It is indeed connected to the junction of the two smoothing caps (in a bipolar PS) which in turn is connected to the reference point of the regulators (at least, that's how it should be done). Although connected, they are not the same. The resistance of the PCB traces makes them different nodes.

Hi!

Well, after some cabling changes, following the good recomendations given here, i run a simple test:

1. One stereo channel, i run a 1khz tone, set unity gain, measured noise floor in soundforge: -80.8db.
2. try the same test with an old stereo digital delay i got (KORG DL8000R): -78.8db.

I'm quitehappy with the results, given my studio setup, which is a bit out of date. I have a very old soundcard (WT192m), and i think, that maybe this soundcard puts a limit on the noise measurements. It is time to get something new... ;D
