has anyone ever taken apart the 'screw on' m7 type head like on the 563 mic? you know, the kit with the m7, m8, and m9 heads?
does anyone have any pics of how its mounted in there? will it be difficult to take apart and remount in a u47 type head instead?

you always hear about the m7 in the u47 sounding amazing (which i agree). but the 563 uses the same cap. and since i thought most of the definition of the sound was from the cap and grille usage, then why so much of a difference?

thanks.

the difference is in the amplifier of the two mics in question which are worlds away. I would imagine that there is probably room for a larger ourput transformer in a U47 vs. a CMV as well. When I get back I have plans to rebuild one of my CMV's which sounds pretty lackluster, I posted up a thread about it a few months ago, do a search, lots of people had real interesting things to say. I can try to open a M7 when I get back hopefully next week.

The grill is a lot different on the 'bottle' mics. The other thing is that at least some of the bottle mics used a spring clip to contact the centre of the diaphragm instead of a screw, ring terminal, and wire. Be careful here!

thanks for the warning dale!
i wonder if the sound of the grille on the bottle style is any sonically different compared to the m7 mounted behind a u47 head style?

wonder if it would be worth screwing around taking apart and risking breaking something. im sure no one has ever used a 47 body schematic with a bottle head. would be interesting!
