we used to use an old PCM41 (actually it was new back then) with 13 ms delay with a slight modulation. hi-pass the lows (just above of the funky frequency you just messed up) and you get a lush clean gtr sound. a little dated for today though.

You could toss up a 2 track and do good ol fashion tape delay. Pan the original signal one way and the delayed signal the other. Works well as you get short delay signal ad if you want can feed it back to the other channel for a second tap.

I am thinking for S & G's(**** and giggles) one day I will take a 2" 24 track and make a 24/23 tap delay. :green:

thanks for the ideas guys! I layed out a small board for the TDA IC also. I need to whip up some i/o stages next. any opinions as to what topology you all would like to see? It's going to be IC based though..

i'm thinking a stage similar to the GSSL for output, and the stage i used for tape inputs in another thread for the input side.. modified to work of course.

if there is anything else you can think of let me know!

I've done this myself many times. Actually, I still will if needed. I'll vary the delay from 7,9,13 or play around some to fit. I usually found root numbers to work best. The 50 or so MS listed earlier seems to great. It then becomes an obvious delay.

In response to someone earlier about the phasing and surround. I used this phase/eq tricks many times to control a little more what was going where when mixing for Dolby.

What Jakko said... Try EQ/compression/reamp, etc, before delay, if mono compatibility is important.

Did you hear there's not going to be a third season?

Brewery thread...

Peace,

You could also as a start try VoxEngo's freeware StereoTouch plugin:

http://www.voxengo.com/product/stereotouch/

if you don't mind running digital.

sorry, I use a computer to control my MX2424 but don't "mix in the box".. maybe someday i can afford to have both setups..

I should have those ICs by next week and pending my work schedule, might have some test results by the end of the week.

ok got my ICs, now for some prototyping!

anyone interested in these besides me? i can tell you where to get the ICs for 4.55$usd each..

[quote author="Svart"]So I'm looking for something that could emulate "stereo" from a mono source.. perhaps a small phase shifting delay of some kind.. anyone have an idea handy before i go and bang my head against the wall for a while?

What would be a good start? some type of multiple buffer setup? i'm not looking for mega delay, just enough to hear a difference.

Check out my patent... it's within a couple of weeks of being the patent, currently in final stages at the USPTO. There's tons of prior art in the essay section. Search for Pub App. No 20020015505

There's the old trick of swapping the faders of a graphic EQ etc (left up, right down etc) but I guess http://www.pat2pdf.org/patents/pat20020015505.pdf will be more nifty - I should have a read.

I talk about that weaknesses of the graphic EQ and others in my application. Did you try that URL? I don't think it works with applications, only finshed patents.

That URL does work - I just typed that number in www.pat2pdf.org and got a 16 page pdf with your name. Haven't read it yet though, but can imagine the graphic trick isn't perfect. I'll read.

Peter

I found it, finally, had to wait for Safari to redraw the PDF.

ON another topic, how do you use Prodigy to find and read new messages whenever you log on? Mine always says, "you have no new mesages."

You may like to try this. Rerecord the track to another track via monitors to mic (say 8-10 ft away). On playback split the new track into 2 tracks with 1 inverted(phase reversed??). Set these spatial tracks at reasonable level and balance until cancelled then pan left & right. Bring up original track until it sits just on top of the new tracks and pan as required. If you have subs you could route seperately and use subs for main mix. Poor mans MS??

p.s. keep this one secret
