I'm of the same opinion. It has become illogical to think less humbly about our place in the cosmos.The one problem is, alien intelligent life might look so different and use very different communication you might not even recognise it as such...
There is a chance aliens walk on two legs and look vaguely human, but that's only a small chance. Who know, alien life might be based on something else, not on carbon and iron. Silicon and copper?
Has there ever been a time where we've not underestimated the size and structure of the universe? This week the news said we've likely underestimated its age by 1/3. Billions of years of undersight! Direct measurements of Thermohaline Circulation (a primary engine of climate!) began only 15 years ago...
At some point, we ought to find the pattern in our shortsightedness, and apply it not only to the size & shape of reality, but to the pecking order of consciousness. Humility (and grace?!) is the only thing that'll save us laymen from the embarrassment of what's to come.
