Vu meters come in two varieties; one with internal rectifiers and one without. An example would be 1176 versus Ampex ATR100. Sounds like you may have one of each. You cannot simply interchange.

Hmmmm. It’s possible as the meter came from overseas via eBay even with the same part number. Yes internal vs external rectification.
